Dr Ross Cooper

I am a neurodivergent educationalist, sociologist, and creative entrepreneur, with 4 adult neurodivergent children. I have worked as a qualified teacher in ‘Special Schools’, in an inner-city College of FE as Inclusive Learning Manager, a Learning and Teacher Coordinator at Southampton University, a qualified dyslexia assessor and Course Director of an MA in Adult Dyslexia Diagnosis and Support at London South Bank University. I was also a Director of the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC). I am the previous Chair of AchieveAbility and co-wrote and edited the Westminster AchieveAbility Commission Report: Neurodiverse Voices: Opening Doors to Employment (2018) My publications include: (2009) Dyslexia, in Neurodiversity in Higher Education; Positive Responses to Specific Learning Differences (Ed. David Pollack), Wiley-Blackwell. I gave the 8th Annual Disability Lecture at Cambridge University (2010) on ‘neurodiversity and dyslexia‘, where I introduced my Bagatelle Model of Specific Learning Difficulties. I was a keynote speaker at the 1st Disability Identity Conference at LSE (2011), where I introduced my Holist Manifesto, and have often been a keynote speaker, including in Tokyo, Milan, Sicily and Vienna. I am a Director of Outsider Software (which orchestrated the national roll out of SuperReading courses in HE –www. outsidersoftware.co.uk). I am also the Director of the Festival of Dyslexic Culture – to celebrate who we are through what we create- www. festival-of-dyslexic-culture.org.uk

Dr Ross's presentation made so much sense, I had a big grin on my face the whole time, nodding away and saying YES! I consider myself a visual learner but I am certainly a verbal thinker.
