Specialist Teacher Assessor/Trainer

Rebecca Thompson

I have been a teacher since 1996 and have been a Specialist Teacher with more than 21 years’ assessment experience, and have been passionate about bringing the best possible education to all students since volunteering in a unit for pupils with additional needs while I was at university. I have worked in mainstream, specialist schools and in LEA support services, before setting out on my own and forming Education Access in 2016. I have supported other teachers who wish to develop in their roles supporting students with specific learning difficulties, as a mentor and tutor for the Level 5 Specialist Teacher qualification. I am also a senior assessor, Internal Quality Assessor (IQA), and mentor for the Postgraduate Award of Proficiency in Assessment for Access Arrangements (PAPAA) and am on the APC Renewal Team for the BDA. My 5-hour mentoring programme for APC renewal has been SASC approved for 4 years now. It is definitely a two-way process; whatever I may be able to pass on, I also gain. Other courses have also been SASC approved: Report writing for Dyscalculia, ‘Using the WJIV in maths assessments’ and ‘The FAM assessment.’ I am now working with the BDA for the APEL dyscalculia AMBDAD. You can read more about my practice at https://educationaccess.co.uk/, and view reviews of my work at https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=ChIJ18_vISK5cEgRi1JxSeXbRGw and https://www.facebook.com/educationaccessuk/reviews/.
